Commonly used stainless steel solid welding wires include AWS ER308, ER308L, ER309, ER309L, R316, ER316L and ER2209, etc., which are widely used in stainless steel welding, chemical industry, shipbuilding and bridge construction. The choice of stainless steel solid welding wire model must be matched according to the type of base material, welding process and working environment. The core is to ensure that the chemical composition, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the weld and the base material are consistent.
Select according to the type of base material (the most critical)
Adjust according to welding process
MIG/MAG Welding
Give priority to ER308LSi welding wire with higher silicon content (Si 0.65%~1.00%), which can stabilize the arc, reduce spatter, and improve weld bead formation.
TIG Welding
Uses standard component welding wire (such as ER308L), which requires high current control and is suitable for precision welding.
Submerged Arc Welding
The composition of the welding wire is the same as that of gas shielded welding, but it needs to be matched with manganese-free, medium silicon and fluorine or low silicon and high fluorine type smelting flux.
Consideration of special working conditions
Low Temperature Environment (such as -196°C)
Use ultra-low carbon welding wire (such as ER308L) and ensure that the impact toughness meets the standard.
Welding of Dissimilar Steels (such as carbon steel + stainless steel)
ER309/ER309L is selected because its high chromium and nickel content can adapt to different expansion coefficients.
